Written answers

As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of health services in County Donegal is, in the first instance, the responsibility of the North Western Health Board. The board has advised my Department that the remaining four beds in Donegal Hospice will be commissioned on 1 September 2004, and all the necessary arrangements are currently being put in place to meet that deadline.

Liz McManus

Question:

384 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is a one-year waiting period for speech and language therapy for children in Bray and a four-year waiting period in Wicklow; if the recruitment embargo will be lifted to ensure proper staffing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The provision of health services, including speech and language therapy, to people with a physical or sensory disability is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards in the first instance. Accordingly, the Deputy's query has been referred to the chief executive officer of the Eastern Regional Health Authority for his attention and direct reply to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
