424 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the location orthopaedic patients who were due to be treated in the orthopaedic unit in Mayo General Hospital will be sent for treatment, as this unit will not be opening on 1 July 2004 as promised; when persons will be called for their treatment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The provision of hospital services for people living in County Mayo is a matter for the Western Health Board. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to the matter raised and to reply directly to the Deputy.
