204 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if, in the case of persons building new houses to cater for persons with disabilities, extra grant assistance is available to cover the extra costs in ensuring that new houses are accessible for persons with disabilities and in wheelchairs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the disabled grants scheme, which is administered by local authorities, a new house grant of up to €12,700 may be paid towards the additional cost of providing a new dwelling specifically to meet the needs of a disabled or handicapped member of a household.
