137 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason young travellers in the 16 to 18 year old age group, who are not in full-time education, training or employment, are not eligible for medical cards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18229/04]
View answerResponsibility for the provision of a medical card is, by legislation, a matter for the chief executive officer of the relevant health board-authority. No particular groups in society, other than persons aged 70 years and over, are automatically entitled to a medical card. Each case is assessed on it's individual merits.
