257 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the steps he intends to take to address deficiencies in the telecommunications network with particular reference to the need to bring the quality of service here into line with that in other neighbouring and competing jurisdictions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Quality of service in the telecommunications sector is a matter for the Commission for Communications Regulation, ComReg, and I have no function in the matter.

The immediate responsibility for meeting the communications requirements of the industrial and commercial sector in Ireland lies with the private companies which operate in a liberalised market under the regulatory supervision of the Commission for Communications Regulation, ComReg.
