260 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science when a decision will be made on the application from a school (details supplied) in County Wexford to have a special unit provided to care for autistic pupils; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are four children in this school suffering from Asperger’s syndrome and that further autistic children intend to enrol in the school in September 2004; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am aware that an application for an autistic spectrum disorder unit for the school referred to by the Deputy has been received in my Department. My officials are currently liaising with the national educational psychological services regarding this application and a response will issue to the school in question as quickly as possible.
