View answerDetection of non-insured drivers is an operational matter for the Garda Síochána. I have no detailed information on the operation or effectiveness of the Stingray system in operation in Northern Ireland. Display of a motor insurance disc on specified vehicles has been provided for in S.I. No. 355 of 1984, Road Traffic (Insurance Disc) Regulations, 1984, and S.I. No. 227 of 1986, Road Traffic (Insurance Disc) (Amendment) Regulations, 1986.
