300 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of cases of missing persons currently recorded; the average number of such cases received in a single year; the number received and resolved in a single year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21162/04]

I have made inquiries with the Garda authorities and the number of cases of missing persons currently recorded for each of the years 1998-2003, inclusive, and the number of missing person reports and the number resolved in 2003 are as set out in the following tables.

It should be noted that statistics for 2003 are provisional. The final figure will be published in the Garda Commissioners annual report for 2003.
