252 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the number of persons on waiting lists in respect of the disabled person’s grant scheme throughout the country; the action he proposes to take to address this serious issue; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Provisional information available to my Department indicates that, at 30 June 2004, local authorities had on hands 3,583 approved applications for assistance under the disabled person's grant scheme. Unapproved applications were estimated at 7,810.

To date, €71 million has been provided in 2004 for disabled persons-essential repairs grants, bringing funding to a total of €287 million since year 2000.
