As the Deputy may be aware the equal opportunities child care programme provides grant assistance towards the staffing costs of community-not-for-profit based child care services which have a clear focus on disadvantage. I have been informed by the child care directorate of my Department that the project referred to by the Deputy was awarded such a grant, totalling €24,000, over two years. I understand this grant has been fully drawn down and that, up to this point, no application has been received from the group in question for funding for a third year.

Should such an application be received, it will be assessed by ADM Limited on behalf of my Department in the usual manner. The application and appraisal will be considered by the programme appraisal committee which will make a recommendation to me before I make my final decision on the application.
