287 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if he has undertaken a study of the conveyancing cost here compared to other EU countries both in respect of initial purchases and top-up mortgages or mortgages switching; and if he has satisfied himself that the legal costs imposed are justified and are unnecessarily inhibiting competition; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has not undertaken such a study. Matters relating to conveyancing and legal costs are within the area of responsibility of the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform.
