187 Ms McManus asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the special deals or contracts being made by hospitals with certain pharmaceutical companies to use only a particular drug for certain conditions, for example a drug (details supplied) being prescribed by St. James’s Hospital; her views on the cost of this drug compared to other generic drugs; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the provision of hospital services in the eastern region rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has, therefore, asked the regional chief executive of the authority to examine the issue raised and to reply to the Deputy directly.
