Questions (203)

Jerry Cowley

Question:

204 Dr. Cowley asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the failure to allow the proposed sports hall for a college (details supplied) in County Mayo to go to tender in view of the fact that all planning stages were completed earlier in 2004; when she expects this to proceed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The PE hall project for the school referred to by the Deputy is at advanced architectural planning and my Department's officials have received a combined stage 4-5 — detail design/bill of quantities — submission from the school authorities.

My officials are nearing completion of a review of all projects that did not proceed to construction as part of the 2004 school building programme, including the school referred to by the Deputy. All projects are being assessed against the published prioritisation criteria, agreed earlier this year with the education partners. Each project will be assigned a band rating and the progress of all projects will be considered in the context of the programme from 2005 onwards.
