189 Mr. Naughten asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the number of patients over the age of 70 currently in geriatric hospitals run by the Western Health Board; the estimated funds paid by the over 70s to the health board since 2001; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of health services is, in the first instance, the responsibility of the Western Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive of the board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and reply direct to him as a matter of urgency.
