365 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Transport if the current temporary chairman (details supplied) of the board of Aer Lingus will step down at the end of 2004; if he has decided on a successor; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31353/04]

Following the resignation of the previous Chairman, Mr. Tom Mulcahy, Mr. John Sharman was appointed as acting chairman on 3 July 2004. His term of office in that capacity will expire on 3 January 2005. Mr. Sharman was appointed as a director to the board on 21 March 2003 for a period of three years to 20 March 2006. I am giving careful consideration to the filling of the position of chairman.
