There are currently four licensed mobile operators in Ireland, holding either GSM and-or 3G licences operating in the Irish market.

As regards the second part of the question in respect of the number mobile service providers likely to enter the marketplace in the foreseeable future, I wish to inform the Deputy that this is a matter for the Commission for Communications Regulation, ComReg, to address in accordance with the regulations set out in the European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) (Authorisation) regulations SI 306 of 2003. I have no function in the matter.

Question No. 104 answered with QuestionNo. 85.
