Written answers

Licensing of television services, other than those of RTE, is a matter in which the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland has statutory responsibility and in respect of which I, as Minister, have no role. I understand that the parties proposing the new service have been engaged in discussions with the Departments of the Taoiseach and Foreign Affairs. As a matter of courtesy my Department was also briefed on the proposals.
