114 Mr. Morgan asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the estimated financial loss incurred by An Post over the past year; and the reason for same. [31179/04]

Losses at An Post amounted to €43 million in 2003. The reasons for the losses include lack of control of costs in the past, inefficient work practices and a decline in letter post volumes. Losses on this scale are completely unsustainable and the board of An Post has drawn up a recovery plan designed to place An Post on a financially viable footing.
