63 Mr. Connolly asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the reason the national diagnostic test centre at the National University of Ireland, Galway, at which testing has been suspended, failed to contact persons who had been tested for fragile X syndrome until now when its attention had been drawn to its faulty genetic testing techniques in July 2004; the action she proposes in order to resolve the situation at the centre; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The National Diagnostic Centre in Galway is not part of the public health services. It is a private service which operates under the aegis of the National University of Ireland, Galway. The centre provides testing services to hospitals and health boards on a fee-per-item basis. It is not funded either by my Department or the Western Health Board.
