173 Mr. Hogan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children the number of health sector personal social service professionals in each health board; if there are waiting lists for these services; if so, the number of persons on these waiting lists; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I understand that the Deputy is referring to the number of health and social care professionals in each Health Service Executive, HSE, area. The number of these staff in each area in wholetime equivalence terms is as set out in the following table. The Health Act 2004 provided for the Health Service Executive, which was established on 1 January 2005. Under the Act, the executive is required to manage and deliver, or arrange to be delivered on its behalf, health and personal social services. Responsibility for the management of the services provided by these grades rests with the executive.

My Department has requested the chief officer of each HSE area to investigate the matters raised and to reply directly to the Deputy.
