657 Mr. Eoin Ryan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a decision was made by the visa office in the case of persons (details supplied) in Dublin 8; the reason behind the decision; if the decision has been appealed; the steps that can be taken to ensure a positive outcome; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerThe application referred to by the Deputy was received in my Department on 6 September 2005. The decision of the visa officer to refuse this application was made on 16 September 2005. The application was refused because the visa officer was not satisfied that the applicant's family had sufficient financial resources to support him. In addition, the visa officer considered that the granting of a visa could result in a cost to public funds or resources. There is no record of an appeal lodged with my Department. All appeals must be received within two months of the date of the initial refusal. As the time for receipt of such an appeal has now elapsed, it is open to the applicant to make a fresh application.
