Questions (325)

Michael Ring

Question:

346 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Transport the Government policy on the future of the rail freight business in view of the fact that the removal of the points from a location (details supplied) in County Mayo will rule out possible freight business at the location in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I understand from Iarnród Éireann that the Claremorris freight facility will be retained and that replacement business is actively being sought. In the meantime Iarnród Éireann has advised me that the points will be terminated, as distinct from removed, as a safety precaution and this process can be reversed in less than one day.
