Following public consultation, the Dublin Docklands Development Authority prepared a planning scheme amending the North Lotts Planning Scheme 2002. In accordance with Section 25 of the Dublin Docklands Development Act 1997, this amending scheme was submitted for ministerial approval on 19 January 2006, which I gave, subject to modifications, on 26 June 2006.

The amending planning scheme relates to an area of approximately 6 hectares in the vicinity of the Point Depot, bounded by Sheriff Street to the north, East Wall Road to the east, and the river Liffey to the south. The specific purpose of the DDDA amending scheme is to review the height of a proposed landmark tall building at Point Square; facilitate the future development and operation of the Point Depot as a cultural facility; consider the future accommodation of LUAS; provide for social infrastructure; and improve urban design guidelines for retail development.

Apart from the provision allowing the height of the landmark tall building at Point Square to increase from 60 metres to 100 metres the Authority will continue to apply the principles specified in the 2002 Planning Scheme in relation to building heights and density.

Details of the amending planning scheme may be accessed on the Authority's website, www.docklands.ie.
