The Commissioners of Public Works carried out a major refurbishment of Ballinasloe Garda station in 2003. Since this time the Office of Public Works have acquired additional accommodation to allow for the expansion of the station.

I am advised by the Commissioners of Public Works that the Garda Authorities and the Department of Justice, Equality & Law Reform have included Ballinasloe Garda station on the 2007 Garda Minor Capital Works Programme where it is proposed to fit-out the additional accommodation mentioned above.

Question:

237 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Finance the status of the Office of Public Works refurbishment plan for Ballintubber Garda Station in County Roscommon; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [39637/06]

View answer

The Commissioners of Public Works have no plans to carry out refurbishment works to Ballintubber Garda station.

Currently, the Commissioners are preparing to advertise early in the new year, for a suitable site for a new Garda station in Ballintubber, in accordance with the priority accorded it by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform.

Following the acquisition of a new site, the Commissioners will dispose of the property on the open market, should it be surplus to State requirements.
