521 Deputy Joanna Tuffy asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the position regarding a letter dated 29 June 2007 sent by the European Commission to the Irish Government seeking an explanation as to the reason it did not carry out a second impact assessment when there was an archaeological discovery at Lismullen on the route of the M3 motorway in March 2007; and if he will make a statement on the matter. View answerOn 29 June 2007, my Department received an Additional Reasoned Opinion from the European Commission raising, inter alia, the issue of whether or not EIA is required in certain circumstances for demolition works. Specific reference was made in this context to Ministerial directions of 12 June, 2007 under the National Monuments Act, 2004 in relation to a National Monument discovered at Lismullin, County Meath on the route of the M3 motorway. A detailed response to the Commission was issued by my Department on 31 August 2007.
