461 Deputy Finian McGrath asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the number of senior posts filled in Sligo County Council and Sligo Borough Council in each of the years from 2004 to 2008 and to date in 2009; the posts filled; the number of these vacancies which were filled by way of acting positions or upgrading; and the number of these posts which were publicly advertised. The number of staff employed at Managerial level, (Manager and Director of Services) in Sligo County Council (figures include Sligo Borough Council), as expressed as whole time equivalents and returned to my Department for the years 2004 to 2008, and to date are as follows:

Local Authorities are advised by my Department that sanction is conveyed to the creation of a particular post, provided that the post is filled in the normal manner, having regard to the Departmental recruitment guidelines, legislative requirements and qualifications. All senior posts within local authorities are recruited through the Public Appointments Service.

Information in relation to acting posts, or upgrading is not held by my Department.
