327 Deputy James Bannon asked the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the reason a person (details supplied) in County Longford must confirm in writing every year that she is not working for a local authority, and have the letter countersigned by an authorised person, to be paid a widow’s pension; and if he will make a statement on this waste of public money and harassment of this person. Under Article 112(2) of the Local Government (Superannuation)(Consolidation) Scheme 1998, a local authority may require persons in receipt of pension benefits to make a pension declaration to them. This is in line with other public sector pension schemes.
