55 Deputy Paul Connaughton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills the reason a school (details supplied) in County Galway has been unable to upgrade its broadband facilities in order to get value from the new ITC investment currently invested in the school; and if she will make a statement on the matter. View answerWith regard to the broadband connection at Ballymana National School, Craughwell, Co Galway (10675O) the school has temporarily installed a private 1mb fixed line connection. The NCTE have connected the school to the schools broadband network which provides centrally managed services for schools such as security, anti-spam/anti-virus and content filtering.
In relation to my Department providing Ballymana National School with an improved connection via the Schools Broadband Scheme a contract has been awarded to Last Mile Broadband. Last Mile Broadband have been delayed in providing the connection as a new mast has to be erected on lands at Abbeyknockmoy. Last Mile have engaged with the HSE for permission to erect the mast. My Department have been in contact with the HSE in relation to this matter. The HSE have stated that they are awaiting Property Committee Approval and that the decision will be available within one month. Once approval has been received Last Mile have confirmed that the mast will be erected without delay.
