View answerThe method of appointment of the Captain of the Guard in Leinster House, a post last filled in 2002, is laid down in Section 7 of the Staff of the Houses of the Oireachtas Act 1959, which states that "the Captain of the Guard, Houses of the Oireachtas, shall be appointed by the Taoiseach after consultation with the Chairman of Dáil Éireann and the Chairman of Seanad Éireann".
