1060 Deputy Jim Daly asked the Minister for Defence if there is any possibility of serving members of the Defence Forces Reserve being permitted to take up a scheme to fulfil duties of cadre staff that have not been replaced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19438/12]
View answerCadre staff of the Reserve Defence Force are full time appointments in the Permanent Defence Force. Entry to the Permanent Defence Force is either through the Cadetship Competition, Apprenticeship Competition, General Service Enlistment or Direct Entry Competitions which are held to fill vacancies in specialist appointments. There are no provisions which permit the enlistment or appointment of members of the Reserve Defence Force to fill vacancies in the Cadre Staff of the Permanent Defence Force other than through these entry streams. Reservists who meet the qualifying criteria for application may apply for entry to the Permanent Defence Force through any of the aforementioned entry streams.
