240 Deputy Sandra McLellan asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport in view of his recent visit to Moore Street, Dublin, the initiatives he intends to put in place to ensure greater tourism opportunities. [23393/12]
View answerAs the Deputy is aware, I recently had the opportunity to tour the major sites connected with the 1916 Rising in O'Connell St., Moore St. and Parnell St. I did this as a guest of some of the descendants of participants in the Rising. The 1916 Rising was an important event in our history and is of great interest both domestically and internationally. In this context, I have asked Fáilte Ireland to carry out an assessment of the potential interest from domestic and international visitors in the 1916 Rising and the possibility of developing a walking trail focused around the sites connected with the week of the Rising. I expect the assessment will be completed in the coming months.
