238 Deputy Sean Fleming asked the Minister for Education and Skills if he will provide a list of all allowances and the payment rates of those allowances paid to staff in his Department that are subject to income tax and the list of allowances and the payment rates paid to staff that are not subject to income tax; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The tabular statement gives details of allowances paid to staff at my Department in addition to their basic remuneration. All the allowances are subject to PAYE with the exception of the footwear allowance and the Home Office Allowance as the rationale for these payments is to recoup staff for costs they personally incur in carrying out their official functions.
