444 Deputy Joan Collins asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the fact that while his Department was consulted by council officials on the terms of reference for the financial appraisal of Sligo County Council, the elected members of the council were not consulted; if he has a policy of encouraging council officials to consult with the elected representatives on such important matters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer to the replies to Question Nos. 864 of 18 April 2012, 273 of 8 May 2012 and 99 of 21 June 2012, and Sligo County Council's decision to engage an independent financial consultant to prepare a report on the financial position of the Council. The report is intended to inform and advise the Council members and management on possible ways forward in dealing with the challenging financial circumstances of the Council.

I understand that the report is to be submitted to the Council later this month.
