352 Deputy Peadar Tóibín asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if he will provide details of the total number of crimes committed, prosecutions and convictions in the Castlepollard area, County Westmeath, or closest geographical area for the years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011; and if he will also provide a breakdown of the figures showing the incidence of each type of crime in the same region over the same time span. The Garda Síochána Act 2005 makes provision for the compilation and publication of crime statistics by the Central Statistics Office, as the national statistical agency, and the CSO has established a dedicated unit for this purpose.

I have requested the CSO to provide statistics directly to the Deputy.
