Questions (176)

Joan Collins

Question:

178 Deputy Joan Collins asked the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if it has been brought to his attention that he was consulted on the terms of reference for the financial appraisal of Sligo County Council; the reason he did not recommend as part of the terms of reference that the consultants examine, review and assess the performance and competence of the management of the county council; his views that the performance of the management of local authorities should be exempted from such investigations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer to the replies to Questions Nos. 864 of 18 April 2012, 273 of 8 May 2012 and 99 of 21 June 2012, and Sligo County Council's decision to engage an independent financial consultant to prepare a report on the financial position of the Council. The report is intended to inform and advise the Council members and management on possible ways forward in dealing with the challenging financial circumstances of the Council.

I understand that the report is to be submitted to the Council later this month.
