Questions (723)

Billy Kelleher

Question:

732 Deputy Billy Kelleher asked the Minister for Health the reason there appears to be a geographical discrepancy in the provision of Xolair for the treatment of asthma and the reason patients in the Health Service Executive south seem to be disadvantaged; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In relation to the issue raised by the Deputy it is my understanding that this treatment is available in some hospitals but not in others due to resource constraints. I have communicated to the Health Service Executive the view that it is not appropriate for access to this medication to be determined by geographical location and for this anomaly to be resolved without delay.
