The number of whole time equivalent teachers working in the primary sector in the 2011/12 school year was thirty one thousand nine hundred and twenty eight. Primary teachers are employed by the managerial authorities of the schools and information in relation to the number of teachers who commenced employment in the primary sector in the past ten years is not available. Information in relation to the number of primary teachers currently employed who do not possess any qualifications is being compiled and will be forwarded to him.
