Non-EEA nationals who have been granted a period of residence in the State for longer than three months are required to register with the Garda Registration Office for the area in which they intend to reside. The onus is on each individual to ensure that their permission to remain in the State is up to date at all times.

Legal residency in the State is granted for a number of reasons including for purposes of work, study and engaging in the running of a business, and for the Investment and Entrepreneur scheme which sets out specific terms of residence for successful candidates. Full details of the scheme and of residency requirements generally are available from the INIS website, www.inis.gov.ie.

It is open to a non-EEA national who has resided legally in the State to apply for long term residency. These applications are considered in respect of persons who have resided legally in the State for a period of 60 months or longer on the basis of Work Permit, Work Authorisation, or Working Visa conditions.

Queries in relation to individual immigration cases may be made directly to INIS by e-mail using the Oireachtas Mail facility which has been specifically established for this purpose. This service enables up to date information on such cases to be obtained without the need to seek information by way of the Parliamentary Questions process. The Deputy may consider using the e-mail service except in cases where the response from INIS is, in the Deputy's view, inadequate or too long awaited.
