228. Deputy Robert Troy asked the Minister for Education and Skills if he will provide an update on deliberations on the site selection for a school (details supplied) in County Westmeath; when the preferred site will be announced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [46003/12]
View answerI can confirm to the Deputy that my Department is in receipt of a proposal in relation to a potential permanent site for the school referred to by him. As part of the assessment of this proposal, it was noted that the relevant Local Authority has indicated that it considers the site in question to be unsuitable as a permanent location for a school. An alternative site, which is suitably zoned and considered technically suitable, has also been identified. However, as the Deputy will be aware, the school in question is not included on my Department's five year programme of projects due to go to tender and construction which I announced on 12 March 2012, and, in light of the scale of the demand on the finite capital resources of my Department, it is not possible to advise the Deputy at this time when the acquisition of a suitable site can be progressed.
