486. Deputy John McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice and Equality the number of occasions on which Gardaí who were prosecuting road traffic offences failed to turn up in court; if the loss of revenue or fines due to the State has been calculated; the steps being taken to minimise this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Courts Service that court statistics are not compiled in such a way as to provide the information sought by the Deputy. I have, however, sought a report from the Garda authorities in relation to the matters raised and will respond to the Deputy as soon as the report is available.
