55. Deputy Finian McGrath asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade the total number of Government special advisers employed in his Department; the total cost of employing these advisers and the cost of employing these advisers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Two Special Advisers assist me in the performance of my duties as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade.

In addition, a Chief Adviser and an Economic Adviser are assigned to the Office of the Tánaiste to support me in the exercise of my whole-of-Government responsibilities.

A Special Adviser is assigned to the Minister of State for European Affairs at Departments of the Taoiseach and Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Each of these five posts is charged to the Vote of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The total annual salary cost amounts to €548,354.
