View answerThe terms and conditions of employment for employees differ depending on the employment criteria, areas of responsibility, etc. Teachers and special Needs Assistants are employed to perform different duties, are remunerated on a different pay scale and attract different terms and conditions notwithstanding the fact that they may be employed by the same employer.
The terms and conditions, including the provisions pertaining to sick leave, are normally agreed between the representative bodies of each grade and the Department of Education and Skills and the Department of Finance. The sick leave scheme for special needs assistants as contained in Circular 0033/2010 was effected by such an agreement.
