Deputy Michael Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine his views on a case in which the State forestry company, Coillte has refused to buy or give a grant for planting land, designated under EU legislation as protected, due to the presence of hen harriers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Coillte Teoranta was established as a private commercial company under the Forestry Act, 1988 and day-to-day operational matters, such as decisions relating to the sale or acquisition of land which take place regularly, are the responsibility of the company.
