538. Deputy John Browne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he will consider establishing a whaling industry here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2561/13]

Whales are a protected species and come under the remit of NPWS (National Parks and Wildlife Service). This Department therefore has no role in relation to this species and has no plans to introduce a whaling industry in Ireland.
