I am informed by the Garda authorities that the matter referred to was fully investigated by An Garda Síochána. This investigation concluded in 2006.

The outcome of the investigation revealed that certain exhibits which were originally recovered in 1983 were subsequently lost and following exhaustive searches could not be found.

I am further informed that since then robust exhibit handling systems designed to ensure the integrity of crime scene exhibits have been put in place within An Garda Síochána.
