Deputy Charles Flanagan asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to reports of the closure of the health centre at Monasterevin, County Kildare; and in view of the fact that the current health centre in the town serves a population base of in excess of 7,000 people, if he will take appropriate steps to secure its future. The Government is committed to moving the focus of health care from secondary care to primary care, key aspects of which include the continued development of Primary Care Teams and Primary Care Centres.
The HSE has responsibility for the provision of Primary Care Centres and the maintenance of existing health centres. Therefore, this matter has been referred to the HSE for attention and direct reply to the Deputies.
