573. Deputy Róisín Shortall asked the Minister for Health the person who took the decision and when to deny married or cohabiting medical card applicants with serious medical conditions the opportunity to apply for and be assessed for a medical card as an individual as had been the practice of the Health Service Executive up to very recently; when this change in policy was communicated to his office; the reason this change was not communicated to the public; if his attention has been drawn to the implications of this for highly vulnerable people; and the action he proposes to take to immediately restore this practice.
