Broughan asked the Minister for Health the way adopted parents who have no knowledge of their birth families' identities can access screening cards in the absence of specific provision for adopted persons in applications to be provided with individual screening cards; and if provision will be made in future for adopted persons who lack all other information on their birth families [16395/13]
View answerNewborn screening involves taking a blood sample from the heel of a newborn baby in the first 72-120 hours of life. After the sample is collected, the card on which the sample is contained is sent to the National Newborn Bloodspot Screening Laboratory at the Children's University Hospital, Temple Street for analysis.
Access to records for adopted persons is a matter for the Adoption Authority.
