680. Deputy Dara Calleary asked the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if he has any concerns about the impact that poor/substandard tyres have on road safety; and if he will consider introducing penalty points for such tyres. [18591/13]
View answerI am acutely conscious of the hazards posed by substandard tyres. The Road Traffic Act, 2010 provides for a number of amendments to the Schedule of the Road Traffic Act, 2002, in relation to penalty points, including those for defective or worn tyres. I am planning to commence those provisions shortly in consultation with the relevant stakeholders.
