Deputy Jonathan O'Brien asked the Minister for Justice and Equality if he will instruct his Department to help locate the remains of the patriot Thomas Kent on the grounds of Cork Prison; if he will work with the Kent family in re-interring any located remains in a more appropriate resting place and that this be done in time for the centenary commemorations of the Easter Rising. View answerThe Irish Prison Service is cognisant of the fact that the remains of Thomas Kent are the only remains of a leader of the 1916 Rising still interred in the grounds of a prison. In the context of the proposed development of a new prison in Cork it is the intention of the Irish Prison Service, subject to the agreement of the Kent family and to the necessary permits being obtained, to have his remains located, exhumed and re-interred at a fitting location.
